When cough syrups are used as psychotropics

This spring, Geneva University Hospitals launched a program to support young cough syrup addicts. Diverted from their medical use for codeine, a highly addictive psychoactive substance similar to morphine, these syrups, sometimes mixed with other substances, are wreaking havoc among 10-25 year-olds: disconnection from friends and family, dropping out of school, social and professional withdrawal, addictive behaviors... Even entry into crime to get hold of these prescription drugs.
